IN IT FOR THE LONG TERM
“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” – George Eliot
“Timing is everything,” so the saying goes. Another saying goes, “There is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.” So while you’re struggling to find the right timing, the universe has planned the right time. We all want what we want right now. But maybe we’re not ready to have it. Maybe the lessons we need to learn to make the most of receiving what we want haven’t been learned. Maybe we’ve been presented with these lessons time and again and we’ve refused to learn. Maybe we keep making excuses for why we aren’t moving along on the journey.
People give all kinds of reasons for why they can’t pursue their dream. “I’m too old.” “I don’t know how to get started.” These excuses are only fear trying to keep us from changing and growing. We hear all the time about people who’ve run marathons, gone back to school, and started a new career in their 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. And what about that little computer company that had its start in someone’s garage? Pursue your dream with vigorous energy. Know who you are, play to your strengths, and never apologize for what you’re doing. When you feel the fear of change and growth, pick up a pen and write about it. Say to yourself “Where I am today is where I’m supposed to be.” It’s a process. But as you go through this process you will be taking steps toward becoming the person you know deep inside you can be.
We have to surrender to the journey. It will take as long as it takes. And it will never happen as we’ve planned it or look like we’ve pictured it. But it will be what we want. When we open our hearts with loving acceptance for all that we encounter in pursuit of a dream, we will be more than what we might have been.
