A NEW MINUTE'S RESOLUTION
"You have the power in the present moment to change limiting beliefs and consciously plant the seeds for the future of your choosing. As you change your mind, you change your experience.”
– Serge Kahili King
Now that we are well into the first quarter of a New Year, I've been thinking about this custom of New Years' Resolutions and how many are abandoned after just a few weeks. Everyone uses the beginning of a new year as THE opportunity to make changes in their life; but in truth, we don't have to wait until the beginning of a new year, a new month, a new week, or even a new day. Every minute of every day brings the opportunity to make a change in our life or our way of thinking or our behavior. When you learn to look at life that way, the ability to change your life doesn't seem so overwhelming because you can literally do it in one minute, one small step at a time. This mindset does, however, force us to realize that change occurs from our own willingness.
Change will come from the awareness we bring to “now”. The future – next
year, next month, or even next week – offers no support or strength to our
plans for personal change. The only tangible power is in the present moment.
How “present” we are in this moment is the foundation for awareness which in
turn is the foundation for true change. Our awareness of what we want to change
about ourselves, our thoughts, or our behavior will determine our success in
making those changes. If we live in the moment, we are able to observe our
thoughts and actions and change them right then, in that moment. It’s not
important that you grasp the concept all at once. Start by observing your
behavior and listening to your responses. Keep judgment of yourself out of it.
You’ll come to realize that when you say or do or think something you don’t
want to, you follow with speech, action, or thought that reflects the change
you do want. See how powerful the present moment is? Yes, change does happen now.
